What is AI and machine learning?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer or robot that is controlled by a computer to complete tasks that are typically done by humans as they require human discernment and intelligence. It leverages the power of computers and machines to mimic the problem-solving and decision-making capabilities possible within the human mind.

Machine learning (ML) is a subset of AI that uses data and algorithms to imitate the ways humans learn and automates analytical model building—continuously improving its accuracy. This branch of AI is based on the idea that systems can learn from data, identify patterns, and make decisions with very minimal human involvement.

What do AI and machine learning developers do?

As an AI and machine learning developer, you might design machine learning systems, research, and implement machine learning algorithms and tools. You might also select appropriate data sets, choose appropriate data representation methods, identify differences in data distribution and affect model performance, transform and convert data science prototypes, perform statistical analysis, run machine learning tests, and extend machine learning libraries.

According to the Emerging Jobs Report 2020, the hiring of AI specialists in the U.S. increased 74% over a four-year period from 2016 to 2020. This report also showed a 344% increase in the salary of machine learning engineers in just three years.

Furthermore, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for computer and information research scientists is expected to grow by 22% over the next eight years, which is much faster than the average growth of 7.7% expected across all jobs in the United States. This equates to an additional 7,200 newly created jobs.

Upon successfully passing the final exam, you will be awarded a certificate of completion from the school or organization that you registered through.
